Want to know how to light a room properly?
Lighting can be quite tricky to get right, but done properly its going to make your room look it’s best. You need to think about fixtures, recessed lighting, lamps, bulbs, wattage, colour, there is a lot to consider!
The biggest mistake you can make is relying solely on the overhead lighting to illuminate every space of the room. You can have a gorgeous room but it will never feel right with bad lighting.
Lighting affects the mood, energy and atmosphere. Try to think about having light from two to three sources in every space. You need to find the right balance as you layer each type of light, try to place them at different heights – high, middle, low.
For multipurpose rooms, dimmers are essential, they allow for flexibility depending on the time of day, event or mood, and they are a great energy saver. Don’t forget to have some fun with your lighting too! In my house, I don’t want things to be too blue or too yellow, that’s why I purchase soft white bulbs.
